FARGO: Expansive feel, modest footprint
Project Size: 3,453 sf
Location: Louisville, CO
Situated precisely on a narrow 37-by-120-foot lot in historic Old Town Louisville, this home exemplifies efficient design, creating an urban oasis within a modest footprint. The homeowners sought a modern aesthetic that would harmonize with the historic neighborhood, seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor living while preserving privacy, and achieve a high level of energy efficiency.
The home’s design maximizes every inch of the compact lot. Three floors, including a basement, take advantage of vertical space to create generously sized rooms. The top floor is set back from the street to soften the structure’s presence alongside neighboring single-story homes. A multifunctional garage studio cocoons the backyard, blocking sightlines to neighboring properties and creating a serene retreat.
Covered patios and rooftop decks extend the living space, offering multi-season enjoyment. At the heart of the home, a sculptural staircase serves as a design centerpiece while maintaining a clean, minimal aesthetic. Strategically placed windows flood the interiors with natural light, enhancing the sense of spaciousness without compromising privacy. With advanced structural design and state-of-the-art mechanical systems, this property stands as Louisville’s first fully electrified and net-zero home.
Through thoughtful design, DAJ achieved a harmonious balance of openness and privacy in a beautiful and efficient package. It’s a modern interpretation of Louisville’s storied past, crafted for a sustainable future.
