AUSTIN MIDNIGHT

AUSTIN MIDNIGHT: A Modern Take on Historic Charm

Project Size: 3,913 sf
Location: Louisville, CO

A couple relocating to Louisville from Austin, Texas, wanted a modern new build that would fit the context of their historic downtown neighborhood. Connection to the outdoors was a high priority, but space was limited in their urban location. They turned to DAJ to design a single-story home that delivered on their desire for a spacious feeling in a moderate footprint.

Drawing inspiration from the historic miners cottages found throughout the neighborhood, the home consists of three gabled structures connected by flat roofs. The change in ceiling height creates a sense of intimacy and expansion as you move through the home. A lush outdoor courtyard sits at the heart of the U-shaped floor plan, connecting the main living areas to nature from every angle. Skylights and well-placed windows flood the home with natural light while maintaining privacy.

The home is remarkably private and harmonizes beautifully with the older homes around it. Landscaping with native plants enhances the entry experience and contributes to a welcoming street presence. The design of the home achieves visual and spatial interest while maintaining a modern, minimal aesthetic.  Ideal for modern living, this home showcases how architectural ingenuity can blend timeless charm with contemporary needs.
